VALIDATION , in general, is the process of checking if something satisfies certain criterion - for e.g. to check if an appliance or process works as intended.  By validation, one is able to testify that a process or equipment is correct or compliant with set standards or rules.

In the chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry "validation" refers to establishing documented evidence that a process or system when operated within established parameters, can perform effectively and reproducibly to produce a product which meets its pre-determined specifications and quality attributes.
